The Luxury of Advent

Waiting…

This is the first time in my 30 years as a priest that I have taken in the value of waiting during advent. This has been a year of waiting. Throughout grief and gratitude we can find in the pandemic, waiting feels like a luxury. Waiting offers time to breathe, reflect, anticipate and dream. Waiting is the space where you don’t need to pretend you have answers and closure. It’s the space between the sleeping and waking where thoughts roam free. Waiting means we haven’t given up. This has been a hard year for churches and not for profits. We are feeling the stress. If we don’t find the value of waiting, we feel cynical, isolated, and angry without compassion for our companions waiting alongside us.

Waiting…the luxury of advent.

Peace and love.
